A letter from the LBA President

My husband is a native Vermonter from Rutland who was lucky enough to spend his childhood summers at Lake Bomoseen. The camp his parents purchased in the 1980s is one of the oldest on the lake, but like many lakeside properties, it was not built as a four-season home. For most of the 17 years we’ve been together, I knew this lake only as the magical summer playground that it is.

Last year, however, we finished building an all season home on the footprint of an old bunkhouse at the camp, and for the first time I’ve been able to experience a full winter here--and it’s been incredible. I truly can’t decide which season is best.

We love watching the ice fishermen patiently wait for the “big one” (while marveling at how many trucks manage to make their way across the ice!). This year’s arctic cold and thick ice made the annual Lake Bomoseen Ice Fishing Derby sponsored by the Castleton Lions Club a tremendous success. My son looks forward to sledding and skating on the lake, and we take every opportunity we can to go skiing. In between it all, I try to steal as many quiet moments as possible to sit by the fire with a good book and take in the stillness of winter.

While we enjoy the winter activities, seeing our lake friends is what truly makes this season special. Winter at the lake has a different rhythm--quieter, slower, more intimate. There’s something about waving to a neighbor across a stretch of snow-covered shoreline or running into familiar faces at a local restaurant that reminds me this lake isn’t just a place--it’s a community.

As we begin to look ahead to spring and summer, I’m filled with gratitude for the people who care so deeply about Lake Bomoseen. Whether you’ve spent decades here or are just beginning your own lake traditions, each of you plays a role in protecting and preserving what makes this place so special. Our shared commitment--to stewardship, to thoughtful conversation, and to working together--ensures that future generations will have the same magical memories that so many of us cherish.

No matter the season, Lake Bomoseen has a way of bringing people together. I look forward to seeing many of you in the months ahead--on the water, at our events, or simply out enjoying another beautiful day in this extraordinary place we’re lucky enough to call home.

Warmly,
Bridget McIntyre

Lake Survey Results Released

The LBA has released the results of our 2025 Aquatic Plant Survey, conducted by Arrowwood Environmental, providing an updated and comprehensive look at aquatic vegetation conditions throughout Lake Bomoseen.

The annual survey tracks both native aquatic plants and Eurasian watermilfoil, an invasive species that can negatively impact recreation, wildlife habitat, and water quality. Field work was conducted during the summer of 2025 using standardized lake-wide sampling and shoreline surveys.

Correcting the Record

A recent newsletter published by the Vermont Natural Resources Council, a private non-governmental organization, contained numerous inaccuracies regarding the Lake Bomoseen Association (LBA) and its role in the permitting process for ProcellaCOR. We believe it is important to correct the record.
