  • 12th ANNUAL -- CASTLETON CONCERT'S ON THE GREEN -- READY TO GO!!!
    • The Castleton CONCERT ON THE GREEN summer concert series is all set, and has once again lined up, an outstanding group of performers, ready to present another great summer of "live music" fun and entertainment. The Castleton Recreation Department and the Castleton Concert on the Green organization will present a concert every Tuesday, rain or shine, throughout the summer. The opening concert begins on Tuesday, June 3rd, and continues thru Tuesday, August 19th. The green in Castleton, next to the Castleton Federated Church, will be the site for the concerts, except for Tuesday, August 5th.. The site for the August 5th concert will be at the Castleton State College Old Medical Chapel green. Starting time for all concerts will be 7:00 p.m., SHARP ! The rain site for each concert will vary. Please check the schedule.
    • A full schedule of 13 concerts has been planned, with one being a special holiday concert on Friday, July 4th, taking place, at Crystal Beach on Lake Bomoseen. The rain date for this concert will be, Saturday, July 5th, same time and place. The following series line-up promises to have a wide variety of entertainment, with music to match any taste -- from bluegrass to big band, to swing and latin, jazz and gypsy, folk, soul and blues, country, rock-a-billy, and honky-tonk, Dixieland and ragtime, pop and gospel, brass bands, barbershop, 50's and 60's -- oldies and goodies -- and, everything in between. You name it -- we've got it!! Listed below are the dates and performers.

  • Click here to read bill H 0549 - ESTABLISHING WATERFRONT BUFFER ZONES: This bill is currently in the House, in Appropriations.
    • This bill proposes to require, beginning July 1, 2010, the establishment of 15‑foot buffer zones adjacent to the public waters of the state. The bill would also require the water resources panel of the natural resources board to adopt rules regarding the size and use of buffer zones. The bill would also require municipalities to adopt bylaws requiring the establishment of buffer zones of at least 15 feet along public waters of the state. In addition, the agency of natural resources would enforce the buffer zone requirements.
    • The purposes of the rules shall be to further the maintenance of safe and healthful conditions,; prevent and control water pollution; protect spawning grounds, fish and aquatic life; control building sites, placement of structures, and land uses,; preserve shore cover and natural beauty,; and provide for multiple use of the waters in a manner to provide for the best interests of the citizens of the state
  • Click here to read bill H 0119 - ESTABLISHING MINIMUM WATERFRONT PROTECTION STANDARDS: This bill is currently in the House, in Fish, Wildlife and Water Resources Committee - 1st Reading
    • This bill proposes to establish minimum waterfront protection standards that would apply to lands located within the protected waterfront, which is defined as being that area within 250 feet from the ordinary or mean high watermark of the navigable public waters of the state. The standards include provisions that prohibit certain activities within the protected waterfront.
    • The purposes of the rules shall be to further the maintenance of safe and healthful conditions,; prevent and control water pollution; protect spawning grounds, fish and aquatic life; control building sites, placement of structures and land uses,; preserve shore cover and natural beauty,; and provide for multiple use of the waters in a manner to provide for the best interests of the citizens of the state.

    • This bill proposes to amend the regulation of wetlands in the state by requiring a permit to conduct activities in naturally occurring wetlands, but allowing activities in manmade wetlands unless otherwise prohibited by rule. The bill would also authorize the water resources panel of the natural resources board to adopt rules regarding both naturally occurring wetlands and manmade wetlands.

    • This bill proposes to authorize the secretary of natural resources to make certain wetland determinations and modify the Vermont significant wetlands inventory maps. The bill would also provide for an appeal of the secretary’s determinations, amend the wetland value relating to hydrophytic vegetation habitat, and appropriate funds for the updating and improvement of the Vermont significant wetlands inventory map.

    • This bill proposes to amend the requirements related to significant wetlands and associated buffers in the state. The bill would authorize the secretary of natural resources to identify and review wetlands and to regulate most significant wetlands in the state and to use that information to update the Vermont significant wetlands inventory maps. The bill would authorize the secretary of natural resources to issue a permit for activities in a wetland that are not otherwise allowed by statute or rule. The bill would also authorize the water resources panel to adopt rules regarding the identification and protection of significant wetlands.

    • This bill proposes to require municipalities, beginning July 1, 2012, to establish 15‑foot vegetative buffer zones adjacent to the public waters of the state. The bill would also require the water resources panel of the natural resources board to adopt rules regarding the size and use of buffer zones. The board in establishing rules shall consider the public water adjacent to which the buffer is established, the predominant use of the adjacent public water, and predominant uses of the buffer zone and the adjacent public water.
